"Onychectomy is the act of surgically removing the claws, most often of a household cat [...] This process involves amputating all or part of the distal phalanx, or end bone, of the animal's toes - the equivalent of cutting off the end of a human finger at its first joint - under anaesthesia, and is popularly known as declawing.
Declawing is rare outside of North America, being considered an act of animal cruelty in many Western countries [...]"
My issue is that it says animals are anaesthetize during the process, but how does that feel after the procedure is done? Does it hurt a cat to walk on declawed paws? Are there mild animal painkillers that can help deal with that while the paws are healing? I don't know.
But I bet your kitty will still love you in the end.
well i still feel guilty. but i picked him up today and he seems very cheerful and feisty [the yuush]. and they sent me home with painkillers to be administered every morning over the next few days... the nice lady said that few veterinarian offices offer after-surgery painkillers.. so if you ever have to do it, choose wisely.
last week, the pet psychic told me that he loves me very much, so i can't imagine much has changed.. but thankyou.
my cats still have their giant talons, we trim them every once in a while. it makes me thing that whatever wikipedia had to say is no good. i mean your finger doesn't continue to grow (like fingernails) from the first joint on. i figure it's just like removing their fingernails. no big. we would have done it if we got them when they were younger but they were already 8months and we were lazy college students (that would see you once in a while!)
this weekend, i'm going to call you and we'll all hang out and it'll be wonderful
yeah.. the only reason we felt like we had to have it done was because we have an older lady cat here, and he was attacking her every chance he got, and it really wasn't fair. only fair fights in this house!
and yass yass! call me this weekend! i'm leaving in a month and it'd be ridiculous if i didn't see you guys once..
