French MPs have voted to ban the hijab and other major religious symbols in French schools. Well, I have kept quiet about this, but I think this shows that there are some truly insane people out there. I will explain why I think this law is not only unfair, but worse; racist, discriminatory and probably illegal ( Read more... )

~binks~ that is cool...one right ya'll have...or france does...that we don't..it's taboo to intermix school and religion here...:/

something people are debating hotly..because it was once accepted...but some people are trying to uphold a separation of church and state...

but what they suggest is just taking away the women's personal rights...to live as she has been taught...wether many think it a way of imprisoning her...some woman actually want to wear the garment...and it should be their choice...by banning the hijab..they might be hindering and actually imprisoning many women in their homes now..depriving them of an education...

~cougsh~ sorry...just got up from nap..~yawns~ and no glasses on..hence scattered though and typos...<3s

Actually in the US you do have the choice to wear religious symbols as clothing etc. Many ppl go to work wearing crosses as necklaces and skull capsas Jews. The separation of church and state in the US means that you can't make a ruling prohibiting the showing of them as a means of your own person. It does not mean that you can't show them. It means that if you doing something imposes on the rights of others to equally demonstarte their faith, then that's a violation of individual rights. You can't impose your beliefs on others and make a law to do so.

And the UK is slighty different in that it's had in legal terms a state sponsored church for many years - the C of E. I'm not saying that this is right or wrong, I'm pointing out that they have a legal precedent for this in the country.

I personally could care less if they want to wear chickens on their heads to proclaim their faith. As long as that chicken doesn't interfere with my life. I like eggs too.
