All good things...

...must come to an end. I go back to lab tomorrow, and Gavin starts day care.

Any suggestions for how to make the transition from home to work easier? I'm sure some parents out there have some wisdom they can share...thanks!

Only advice I can give you is to give him something with your scent for the day (like a pillowcase or small blanket that you sleep on). I know how hard it is on Mommy (he'll adapt quicker I bet!)

oh! the scent thing!
your a fencer so this can work great for ya.
Fence for the day in underarmor and then give it to Gavin without washing it. You would be AMAZED at how effective this is.

When we Transistioned Sarah to the crib I gave up the fighter practice under armor. she would sleep thru the night. imagine 7 hours of solid sleep.

I have found the transistion harder for the adult than the child.
Gavin will likely stop being upset in three or four minutes after you are gone...

parents on the other hand spend the day nervous and twittery.. male and female.

my suggestion. everytime you think of him... remember that smile of joy on his face when he sees you. give him a big hug when you get home.

DO NOT let the seperation in the morning take any real time... otherwise it is harder on the both of you.

p.s. I want to see a family picture soon

Finding a routine was essential for me. The first week I came home every night exhausted and hating it. I looked at all the bottles I had to wash, which was foreign to me up until that point, and thought I'd never make it. But it wasn't that bad a after a few weeks of figuring it out. Use every time shortcut you can, so you have more time with Gavin when you get home. I take pictures of Benjamin with my cell phone every week and use them as wallpaper, so I always have a current picture, and I also recorded the sound of him laughing to sue as a ringtone. If you have to label all of his bottles for daycare, use duct tape instead of masking tape. It'll stay on forever and sharpie washes off, so you only have to change the writing, and not the tape every night.
