I could use the metaphor of a chocolate chip cookie. Do you like those? If you don't then we shall pretend that you do. You eat the cookie until it is gone. You do not feel sad because the cookie is gone, you feel good because you had a cookie. It is foolish to be sad for finishing the cookie. Happiness should not cause sadness so directly. Also, there are a lot of cookies in the world. So, yes, you may have guessed, I am indeed the cookie monster (non-metaphorically).
