it's amazing how useful scientific information is to me when i'm trying to heal. the other day, i had a really intense but incredibly helpful rolfing session. bettina, my rolfer, worked on the inside muscles of my legs, and my psoas and other abductors that run up from the insides of the legs through the hip flexors around the abdominal region ( Read more... )

Yeah, I wish yoga instructors and the like would be more helpful with this sort of thing! It always bothers me when they say something like "lift the back of your skull through the ceiling" or something that obviously can't mean what it says, but I really don't understand the metaphor.

that's why i like pilates a lot -- they use metaphors sometimes, but usually they talk about where exactly (eg what muscles) you should feel the exercise.
