If you would like to buy me flowers!

Not really sure if any of you have noticed or not ... BUT! We're all very self centered, no matter how giving a person you are, part of you gets a satisfaction out of the smile on the receiver’s face. It's a part of human nature, one could suppose, where the self is the number one priority. You have to keep yourself alive - the Darwin excuse.

Out of curiosity, will this post be to thank for said rant, or is it something that's been building?

i can't find the word "wombat" anywhere in this entry.

i agree with your general conclusions. i tend to wear the same pair of jeans for months or even years and no one has yet commented on that fact. in addition, i tend to think that too many people take things too seriously and personally.
however i disagree with some of the comments made on the way to that conclusion. while much of what we do is for one's own gain, it is unfair to say that everything is done for that reason. so often the final result of "everything for ourselves" is not realized in our minds until the deed is done. for example, when i would go to a homeless kitchen in dc with my church when i was younger, i wasn't thinking "making food for homeless people will give me a feeling of accomplishment" rather, i was thinking that homeless people need help. it is also interesting to note that, despite popular theory, not everyone is manipulative. just because the net result of something is personal gain doesn't mean that personal gain was the reason that something was

Yeah, and I get that. I love buying things for people, anything from cadbury eggs to jewlery (mostly jewlery for family and rediculously close friends). I don't buy a gift because my friend will like me more for it, I buy it so that I can see that wonderful smile on their face.

In all truthness that example is an over exageration for a reason. If you want to see it in an "abstract" way, it's to show people how self centered they can appear. If you want the more obvious reason - the word I wasn't using (which will be posted later) made my language slightly distorted and the original meaning I wanted to put out was distorted with it. Which is why I like having this word in our language.

Anyway, hope that clears a few things up ... maybe.
