P-Town Memories

On Saturday, Steph, Erin, and Keri and I took our annual trip to Provincetown.  It was, as usual, a wonderful experience.  (I had a terrible cold and felt like death the entire time, and yet it was still awesome because that's how special P-Town is.)  I hope that next summer we'll be able to make it an overnight trip (like we did the times we went ( Read more... )

wellfleet is a very very fun place; probably my favorite beach(es) on the cape.

and what is it that makes "come to my window" the official anthem for lesbianism; i mean, i understand the overtones in the song, but it doens't seem to be too much more than several of her other songs

I think it's more that it's her most well-known song (thanks to radio play and that bizarre music video with Juliet Lewis)...Melissa Etheridge has definitely written much more explicitly lesbian songs, but that's the one that everyone knows, and it does have overtones (I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain the album it's off of, "Yes I Am," was her first album after coming out). The only real competition for her most well-known song I think is "I'm The Only One," and that definitely doesn't have to be about lesbianism.

(I'll point out that Keri and I knew all of the words to more than just that song, and we were so into the whole show that the performer came up to us during her break and thanked us for being awesome. :))

what about "i want to come over"?

it's pretty hard to come up with alternate meanings for that...

I know, but I'm pretty sure that if you took a poll, more people would know more of the words to "Come to My Window" than "I Want to Come Over." I mean, neither of those have the subtext/direct references of something like "Secret Agent" (which is my personal lesbian anthem song :-P), but only people who really know her music well would know that song.
