If that's movin' up then I'm movin' out.

Well, folks, I've started a new blog. That doesn't mean that this one will go obsolete (not that I post on a regular basis), as I certainly want to keep track of my livejournal friends. But I'll mostly post more personal, day-to-day stuff here now, whereas my blog will be more focused on a tangential aspect of my work at Calvin ( Read more... )

Thank goodness. I think it's important for LJ people to remember that people read their journal because it's a journal, not a soap box or editorial corner. While it is (and should be!) both of those things, it's important not to let the PERSON get lost in there. If I only wrote about what I thought about music or books or etc. at the expense of it being a personal journal, it would be uninteresting and I may as well keep it as a word document somewhere. Good for you for making the division!

Is there any way to syndicate this new journal to LJ?

I actually had a hard time deciding that I would distinguish between the two, because I don't really like the idea of dividing my life into "compartments." ("Faith talk goes over here... books go over here... dating goes over here..." etc.) But I think the nature of livejournal is different from a lot of other blogging spots, and I wanted to retain that. And since this new idea was so topical and specific, I figured it would make sense to give it its own space.

I have no idea how syndication works--I'm a dummy when it comes to this stuff. (I haven't even figured out how to put up links to other sites in the sidebar of my new blog yet.) If someone else knows how to do it, I'd love to!

Thanks for the encouragement, Andrew.

Your new blog thing EVEXP sounds really interesting...I'll be sure to regularly read it. Should make for some interesting reading...I know that a lot of my own, er, "demons" were exorcised quite well through writing about it. Between you and me (well, and whoever reads this comment) I am working right now on what will no doubt be a novel or novella based on my two years at a Christian college. That place was actually fundamentalist way more than evangelical, though. I plan to someday write something in a longer vein about my years at the bookstore, as well, which should be fun. Dear Lord, I'm self-indulgent. Anyway, maybe you and I can talk about us putting the new journal thing as a linked item on the Vagrant Cafe's front page once you've been going for a bit?

This blog might've better been named "Fundamentalist Expat," but it doesn't sound as good. ;-)

Yes, let's talk.

Can't wait to read your novel(la), Joel.

Kate...I'm definitely interested in talking about this. My email is familiar@vagrantcafe.com...perhaps email is the best way to do this. I'm up for IM stuff, as well, if you email me your contact info. Or, you know, Vagrant Cafe PMs.

Oh yeah, also: can you think of a better tag-line than "whoever brought me here is gonna have to take me home"? I'm thinking a lyric, but thematic to the blog. You're always so good at the lyrical one-liners. :)
