voter ID requirements and such

This is coming up a lot lately. For most Americans, it's no trouble at all to obtain a government issued voter ID, right? In Texas, student ID's, even from state schools, will not suffice to permit you to vote. But show a concealed weapons permit, and you're in. So, for Texas voters, its best to be armed and stupid.

well, do you need to be a citizen to get a weapons permit? Because you generally don't to enroll in school.

At this point, almost everyone has a Social Security Number as it's required for parents to get one for children they claim as dependents on their taxes.

You also need a SSN and a copy of your birth certificate to apply for any job now.

In any case, the fear here isn't that illegal aliens are voting, specifically. It's the fear that there are general cases of systematic voter fraud occurring in cities. Basically, it's the flip side of the "electronic voting machines stealing elections" fear.

This not actually true. Some jobs don't do it quite right.

And what kind of voter fraud are we supposed to fear that could somehow be ameliorated by carding everyone? "Fraud" sounds scary if you never bother to describe the fraud. It's a good plan.
