Chanter's Board Quest: Maleficar in Darktown

Sep 24, 2011 02:17

Cullen had received word that a group of maleficar gather together every week in the shadows of Darktown. For nights he and his fleet had been patrolling the streets but the long nights spent there went unrewarded. Not this night though. Tonight, he would have help-someone more adept with the shadows than he or his templars ( Read more... )

Bianca arrives right on schedule, equipped in her favorite armor, Starfang and Fang, her mother's dagger, on her back, Mudge at her heels.

She gives a small nod to Cullen.

"So. Malefecar, huh?"

She smirks a bit.

"This should be interesting."

Hawke rolls her eyes and grins at Bianca during Cullen's complaint of trying not to be detected. Clearly, the man has no faith in their skill. He wanted stealthy people for this, yes? "Right behind you, Bianca." Her grin grew. "You might not see or hear me but I promise I'll be right behind you anyway." Ahh, rogue jokes. Best type.

Bianca laughs. She loves rogue in-jokes.

"Touche, Hawke! But who knows! I might end up behind you, and you'd never know it!"

She snickers a bit. Nobody gets rogue jokes like rogues.

Hawke wants to continue the teasing--she and Bianca will definitely need to go out for a celebratory drink after this is over and share rogue jokes--buuuuuut they have arrived in Darktown and are already attracting attention. Actually, she and Bianca aren't attracting nearly as much attention as the Templars are. Huge armored people in Darktown, yeaaaaaaaah...if Cullen really wanted them to go unnoticed, the knights should probably have just stayed home...

"If you two wanted to be stealthy, clunky ole me shoulda stayed home" she jokes with a grin.

"You are not clunky," Hawke says with a smile. "You don't wear plate armor. Plate armor is clunky. Besides, who else is going to heal us when things go wrong?"

Because no matter how stealthy they are, things will go wrong. Or at least, not as expected. Plans don't usually survive the first engagement with the enemy.

"So, clunky is relative now, is it? she laughs. "And good point, good point. You make the mess, I'll clean it up."

"Hawke's right, Ella Bella. You are not clunky. You are a healer and if you ever wanna learn some rogue tricks, you've got a willing teacher right over here."

Bianca gives her a reassuring grin, before frowning. The templars really are attracting too much attention...

"Maybe it'd be a good idea if we went ahead of the walking tin cans..."

Ella perks up. "You'd each me roguey things? This will be fun, I'll take you up on that offer sometime."

She lowers her voice. "All we need for them is a good thunderstorm with lots of lightning..."

"Sure, why not? It'd be fun! A mage with rogue skills? You'd be unstoppable!"

She's clearly having fun plotting this out in her head...

Buuut they do have a job to do.

"Cullen? I'm going to go and scout ahead, see what I can find. I'm a bit les...obvious then you guys are. No offense."

"Somehow, I have a mental image of me stealthing around, and then lightning zapping a tin can templar..." she tries to stifle her laughter, but it's not working very well.

But, yeah, job to do, right. She figures she'll let the roguey two types go ahead, the templars hang back, and she'll stay in the middle-ish.

Bianca bites back her laugh at Ella's comment, before she moves on ahead with Hawke. She puts enough distance between her and the templars, before she sneaks into the shadows.

Hawke moved off to another side. She trusted Bianca on her own; with two of them scouting ahead in slightly different areas, they'd cover more ground faster. Unlike the elf, she kept Teo with her; he was surprisingly good at being sneaky for such a large mutt, and unlike Ferelden, dogs frequently were disregarded as not a threat here.

Of course, in Darktown they were also seen as food, but that was a different problem. And not one Teo had to worry about.

Hawke moved in the shadows, wondering what exactly she was looking for.

Mudge just isn't very sneaky, sadly...he'll keep an eye on things from behind both of them.

Bianca isn't sure exactly what to look for at first. Everybody in Darktown could be viewed as a sketchy criminal if you wanted to look at it that way...but nothing really stuck out and screamed 'malefecar'.

However, a group of people whispering conspiratorially and then walking off, looking around nervously, could be a good place to start...

Something stirs in the shadows. A man makes his way towards one of the back alleys, making an effort to avoid the areas where any form of light may hit. Wherever he ends up, there's a hushed group of people talking-- plotting rather.

Hawke senses: tingling! try_winging_it September 27 2011, 14:26:54 UTC
Hawke spies the shadow moving inside the other shadows, and goes still herself, watching it. Whoever it is is going to great lengths to try and avoid being seen.

She follows in his wake, staying at a distance but keeping him in sight, until he joins a group of people who have "conspirators" written all over them.

Hawke gets as close as she can without being spotted, trying to overhear. Silently she signals Teo to watch her back so she can concentrate.
