I am waffling so hard on getting a beta on this story. On one hand it is super long for me (20k! omg!) and I have a hard time holding all of it in my head at one time and have been staring at it so long I've long since lost any perspective on it. On the other hand, I kind of just want to post it so that I don't have to look at it or think about it

I try to get a beta for just about anything longer than 1k, but I'm self-conscious like that. And usually just ping the same two people regardless of fandom/pairing (and they do the same to me).

I hear you on the self-consciousness thing! But I feel like I've become less so, just because my usual betas have become busy or drifted off to other fandoms, and it has definitely forced me to become a better editor of my own work because I know I can't rely on anyone else to bail me out of things.

Double-edged sword, man.

Sometimes I find it helpful to have someone unfamiliar with the characters/fandom to look a thing over-then you know if the story can really stand on its own without much context!
