40fandoms, #4 Fandom: The Mummy Pairing: Rick O'Connell/Ardeth Bay Rating: R, if that. Word Count: 1063 Disclaimer: Not mine. Would've been a different movie if they were. Summary: Rick and Ardeth meet again. And again. And again.
I'll try to be more coherent this time. But FL:AJFLKSA OMG. I lovelovelove Rick and Evie in the movies, so it's hard for me to see the slash, but it's kinda there, I suppose. I mean, it's two hot guys. :D
But oh, I like this. There is an understanding between Rick and Ardeth that Evie can't really compare, not for any fault of her own or that she's a woman. She's just a different breed of person from Rick and Ardeth.
And Rick never tries to hide his approach, he's rather gleefully obvious about it all, though Ardeth suspects that he couldn't speak lowly if he tried
I LOVE this line, because it's so. true.
If the undead can't kill him, if Imhotep can only scar him, he just shouldn't be able to die from normal means.
And this line, too. The fact that Ardeth worries about the "normal" stuff. It's kinda true. To survive all this crazy stuff and be done in by something so simple and natural.
What I like best is the tone. There is this... quiet dignity to the storytelling, which fits Ardeth perfectly.
Thanks for the comment! Has anyone ever told you that you give great feedback?
First off, I'm actually right with you on the Rick-and-Evie love, but someone pointed me the way of some Mummy slash a few years ago and I've had it in my head to write something like this since then. Finally, finally, I got round to it, and I'm definitely not trying to trivialise Rick and Evie's relationship in any way because of all the canon couples in all the fandoms ever, those two are way up on my list.
And! Y'know, you picked out my favourite parts there. Extremely glad here that the tone didn't come across as me trying too hard, because I was starting to think that by the end. Really, glad you liked.
