Microsoft /fail (again)

Disk Defragmenter... on Vista Home Premium. What a load of /fail.

So I have this "new" external hard drive that I just copied a bunch of stuff too and deleted a bunch of stuff from. This means I need to defragment. So I right click the drive in "My Computer" and say "properties". Then I click the "Tools" tab and select "Disk Defragmenter". Then ( Read more... )

Not that I expect this to help, but the utilities on Vista Home Basic would seem to be worse. On our system with that "O.S." (spit), the disk defragmenter definitely took hours - something like 9 hours on a 120 gig drive. *sigh*

Unfortunately, we need to have one Windoze box around for VPN'ing to work (no clients for Linux, damn it), otherwise it would join all our other systems that are running different flavors of Ubuntu.

I still haven't figured out why M$ is so far behind compared to everyone else in this whole technology when it comes to a basic filesystem. Everyone else figured this out a long time ago.
