My grandfather is going blind. His eyesight's getting worse and he actually has to feel for things off his plate when it's right in front of him. And he cries, and the doctor says he'll operate but it'll only delay the inevitable. It's upsetting, but I can't rid myself of the belief that nothing bad can happen to my grandfather - he's practically ( Read more... )

They tittered, said everyone says that when they're young

I get infuriated by that kind of condescending shit. "One day you'll grow up and become a mindless conformist like me. Because doing what everyone else tells you to do is what being a mature adult is all about."

I was seething. One of the reasons I didn't tell them that I was in love with a female is that they'd probably tell me I'd grow out of that too.

Your grandpater bags heaps more wows than a custard explosion and mountains more than an army of drone bees making short work of a jam factory. And you have my word on that as a recognized authority on baggers of wows of every description.

Is it cataract? I hope he'll be better soon. He's survived much worse.

It may not be, seeing that S. 377 speaks of 'unnatural offences' that involve intercourse 'against the order of nature'. Sex between women technically doesnt involve intercourse. So, yes, it is debatable.

hmmm.... if I had gotten married before all my grandparents had died I would have been married before age 16.

besides, since when is marriage equal to not being alone? that's a strange reason for getting married.
loving someone does not require marriage, ever.

anyway, I hope your grandfather will be around for a long time and that it will be without sadness and illness :)

Love,

Alie

You got married really early anyway!

And the love=marriage thing is so restricting. :(

true, but only because of legal paperwork, which (for me personaly) is the only reason to get married. I honestly think we never would have gotten married otherwise and I am perfectly fine with that. I value our relationship for the work we both put into it, and still do, not for the fact we got married. Every idiot can get married, I think that's the main reason why there's an official 2 week waiting/engage period before they will marry you here.

I also never understood the whole "lovey dovey, spend obscene amounts of money" kind of weddings. I wonder where the absurd idea of "that" equaling love came from....

there's one thing that does mean something, emotionally, the fact that I have Koos' last name now. I did think about keeping my own name at first but the fact that his last name is the same as my maternal grandmother's maiden name just seemed to fit. I was named after her :)

FWIW. And I was always told that I'd "grow up" and "understand" some day, but it didn't turn out like that, because what they meant was yeah, become a mindless conformist and understand that there are Things We Just Don't Question, and that never, ever happened. In fact, in terms of conformity and stopping challenging authority, I've been getting younger and younger as the years go by...

(Wow, you still have sodomy laws on the books, too? Of course, I was surprised a couple of years ago to find out that we still have laws like that in parts of the US - not to mention all the bans on sex toys...and of course there is a vocal movement that wants to ban contraception, too...)

We have laws against sex Against The Order of Nature. (According to just_sphinx there's a "right-thinking person" clause in there too, which would be comical if it wasn't so awful).

Oh, and as for sex toys. We're not allowed to manufacture or sell them in this country, to my knowledge, but we can buy them abroad as long as we tell customs they're for personal usage. Or something.
