We decriminalised homosexuality. Which is awesome.

However:

I've summarised and briefly commented upon the judgment here (it's 105 pages long!): http://de-legibus.blogspot.com/2009/07/delhi-high-court-decriminalizes.html

Will be putting up a defence tomorrow.

I'm not really surprised by the judgment. I spent three weeks in the Chief's Court during my internship in the Delhi HC, and he's just the kind of liberal judge we need so many more of.

It'll be interesting to see the public reaction to this. It'll go up in appeal to the SC, of course. Let's hope the apex Court has the courage to uphold the HC judgment.

Yep, I actually read all 105 pages of it. How do you do this on a regular basis?

If I remember right, the SC actually made the HC reopen the case after they dismissed it? So yes, hopefully they'll uphold it.

Oh, we get used to it. :-)

No, there's a distinction. The HC hadn't dismissed the case, they had refused to hear it. So the SC ordered them to rule on merits. Anything can happen in the appeal. In fact, if Justice Katju is on the bench, then in all likelihood the appeal will succeed.

Fingers crossed, though.

"Even dogs will laugh at us"? This is to suggest that they don't already?

My jubilant mood is also tempered by the thought of the myriad of battles to fight ahead. I just hope there's a way to be useful - and effective - in some way.

Absolutely. I'm terrified they're going to take it away again.

Oh they'd love each other. As long as they could agree that the Indians should stay in India, the Afghanis in Afghanistan, the English in England, etc.

...which is what makes me think that a lot of the people who come up with this stuff are repressing a lot of things. Either that or gay sex is so amazing, and so superior to het sex that only the law is stopping everyone from doing it.
