France's List of Things To-Do before the 2010 World Cup

1) Get a decent team captain without anger management issues
2) Get a goalie who actually can touch the ball during penalty kick shootouts
3) Get a coach who doesn't substitute the best player in the last minute of regulation

God, I hate the Italians.  They play dirty.  They weren't even that good ( Read more... )

LOL. Divya, let's face it. The world cup isn't ALWAYS about who plays the best. Of course France is better, but when you get a team captain with "anger management issues," it's hard to say who's gonna win. Don't worry, you have 4 more years baby. And the italians don't PLAY dirty...they just look dirty...and hot.

(remember when #20 DIDN'T make the penalty?)

jk. love, me.

its pretty tough to touch balls on penalty kicks. i rooted for italy because i started to like italy after a pbs special on it years ago. and because they invented some tasty foods. and because they are not french. but french bread pizza is good. but it's still "pizza". i thought the zidane headbutt was fularious. in fact i re-enacted it with jon. oh and if you watched on abc, did you notice how they had that statistic during the middle of that game of what percentage of france's team had "appearance of 40+ age".. what the hell kind of statistic is that, or did i read that wrong? they had the average age, 29, and then that.

I like to watch it on Univision. When someone scores, the commentator screams, "GOL!" for like 30 secs.

i agree with diane. one thing i realized this world cup, as much as i hate to admit it, is that a good team is defined as one who can win even when they're outplayed. i thought italy by far outplayed france in the first half, but i thought france had much more stamina in the second. in fact, italy played this game the same way they always play the round of 32 and the round of 16.. they get a goal in early on and then play easy defense the rest of the game. that's why i used to hate italy, but you have to admit, their PKs were very legitimate, and with the exception of during PKs, their goalie was on fire, and their passing, in this game and the one against germany, was incredibly precise. france may have outplayed them the second half, but italy clearly won the game.
