In film class I always have the deepest thoughts. Its sad that I have to be watching something where no one is going to talk to me to become distracted enough to get inside my own head, but I think that's what it is sometimes

Hey Em, I just wanted to share something. I’ve been thinking about all this a lot lately too and today I came to a place other than banging my head against a wall. I don’t think this country's people are as awfully broken as I’ve been fearing. We’re divided, but on a couple of EXTRAORDINARILLY divisive issues that always rile everyone up. They’re boring old issues really, and they aren’t the issues that our president needs to focus on, and more importantly not issues that the president has much authority over. The entire gay marriage debate turned out to be a brilliant political ploy from Bush that forced the country to draw lines and pick sides and forget about the issues that presidents do have control over: The war, health care, foreign policy, social security, etc

Yes, but now those moral issues that my mother said would never be touched by the government FOR REAL, like overturning Roe v. Wade, ARE being touched for real. And the REAL issues? They are SUPER fucked up! And they ARE going to try to make a constitutional ban on gay marriage, which would be the ONLY part of the constitution put in specifically to DENY rights, and it's all partriarchy-related. So? What of it? Half of this country GOT that it was a ploy, and did look at the issues, and did realize that a "flip-flop" was really a responsible human being. But the other half of the country is obsessed either with their own personal momentary wealth or with turning our democracy into a theocracy. So while your points are all true, they only make me feel worse, not better. I just wrote a paper on why the northeast should become it's own country. If you want to read it i can email it to you.
Sad, but true. We can only take comfort in the fact that 49% of the nation is feeling the same deep remorse and confusion that we are. I know it's not the majority, but we are close. I want to move just as badly as the the next Democrat, but I think there's some truth to the 'stick with it' policy: if for no other reason, I'm going to stick with it because my parents live here, and I don't think they have taken to the New Zealand idea quite as well as I have.
Mostly what I'm trying to say is, I agree with you completely, which is no surprise. I havent' moved on yet, either. Let's talk soon - let's vent without the fear of someone saying, "Get over it, already!"
And just remember, even overturning Roe v Wade can't keep you and I apart! Woot!
