"I always wake up alone, there's no one else at all. Mr. Nanaki's gone, and Mr. Chaos. I can't find Al or Ms. Aerith. Or Mr. Hans. And Gale turned back into a monster with everyone else. I'm by myself." She looked away, curling her arms tighter around the bear. "Thank you for bringing my bear back, Mr. Break. I'm sorry Emily didn't like him."

She didn't acknowledge the cookies for a moment, sitting down quietly and curling on her bear. "Why come now, Mr. Break? Why not come before? You knew where I was before, too."

"Is that so..."

Come to think of it, he hadn't seen Hans either. He frowned a little-- but no, she wasn't his liability. He couldn't make her his liability in any case; she'd be in more danger with him, considering his lifestyle. Still, it was sort of unpleasant to think about her fending for herself in a place like this.

He spread his arms with a bit of a smile.

"I didn't have your bear before, did I?"

"yes. Everyone went away." She didn't exactly sound sad, just thoughtful, dark eyes focused into the middle distance.

"No." There were dark stains on the bear now, he looked a little more ratty than he had when she'd first found him. She crossed her ankles, peering up at him, judging, weighing; discerning eyes that had lost a little of their innocence to this dark and dreary place.

"What happens now?"

His smile grew a little strained. Alone or not, it wasn't his problem or his place to fix it. She wasn't Emily, and wasn't his liability, and he would put her in danger. (But what greater danger could he put her in, after he'd already killed her?)

"Now, we have breakfast!" he declared, gesturing again at the cookies. They were nothing fantastic, since he had made them himself and knew very little about cooking, but they were edible enough. "After that, it's up to you. If you'd like me to escort you back home, or somewhere else-- or if you'd rather I didn't."

It was added like an afterthought, almost, but it was perhaps the most important question. He was up here because he wanted something, some sense of resolution, even if he didn't know how to get it. He had no illusions that this was anything but selfish. He'd killer her. Why should she want to see him for longer than she had to? That's why he had to give her the option.

"Cookies aren't for breakfast, Mr. Break. They'll make you sick if you eat too many." She forgot which of the adults in her life had told her that, but it had stuck in her brain and rattled around.

She had a brief thought of glasses and a soft male voice.

But that was silly.

She didn't know anyone who wore glasses.

She clung to her bear, thinking for a long moment. "It's still nighttime, Mr. Break. That means bad things are still around, right?" She licked her lips, she'd asked him for protection once and he had let her die.

Wasn't that what it meant to be dumb, asking for the same thing and expecting a different result? She plucked restlessly at the bear's ear, chewing on her lower lip.

It was scary to die.

It was scarier to be alone.

"I don't know what I want to do, Mr. Break. I don't get a choice very often about what happens to me next."
