Break's problem was restlessness more than anything else. He hated working on a useless project, but he hated sitting still even more, and there was little else to do during the day. Even so, Mello had done nothing to deserve his wrath; the eyebrow was enough to make him back off a little bit. He still needed Mello for the note.

"Mmm..." he knelt down and tugged lightly on Syrup's forepaw. The rabbit gave a startled jolt but didn't try to pull away. "I'm not sure it's sturdy enough. It might break, and then we'd fall to our deaths." He sighed and released its paw. "I suppose we'll have to learn about carpentry after all."

The rabbit hopped forward to meet him as he sat back on his heels. He gave it a sceptical look.

"It ran away, did it? I suppose I would too, seeing your face." He gave Mello a bright smile.

"Yeah," Mello sighed, "You're right." He sat down on a box, leaning forward onto his knees, and watched the rabbit for a few seconds. "It probably wouldn't hold up so well. Looks pretty flimsy. We'd die. But then again..." He paused, glancing over towards Break's masterpiece of a ladder. "Wait... Sorry, were you talking about the rabbit or the ladder?" The two were, he realized, pretty damn interchangeable in that context. "...In either case, though, we probably would need to learn something about carpentry."

He hesitated unsurely before speaking again, as he couldn't decide if he should take Break's comment as an insult; he hadn't been expecting that for a response, and wasn't sure if Break-- considering how he'd just been acting-- had intended to insult him or not. "Yeah?" He returned Break's bright smile. "Not gonna lie, I'd probably do the same, but I kinda doubt that's the rabbit's problem. I mean, it is following around... you."
