There were two phantasms, one on each side of the older Elric brother, and they took him to a room not unlike the one they had used to toy with his brother. That the brothers had both been selected was not intentional, but it was an interesting coincidence nonetheless.
They already knew what they were going to do to him. Perhaps he would realize just what had happened to his brother.
