Oh, how I love having time to savor the food I make. Oh, how I love having the time to put thought into it because I am off today. Oh, how food stirs my senses and leads my thoughts down different paths as I inhale and salivate. Oh how I use the creation and enjoyment of food to reach a place of meditation and peace.

Food I love, and yet food is killing everyone's budget. Have you checked out the food inflation in the past two years? let alone the past six months. Produce and meat have sky rocketed. "Ground beef, milk, chicken, apples, tomatoes, lettuce, coffee and orange juice are among the staples that cost more these days, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics." Its crazy. Yes, gas is way up, esp in Alachua County, but grocery prices in combination with the gas is killing me. I love fresh produce and the average person is buying more canned goods again due to the worst food inflation in over 20 years. What do I do to make extra money? I teach a cooking class, in which the cost of class covers ingredients each week. Can I raise prices next year and still have enough students attend to make it worth while? Hmmm....
Anyway, While I can afford you, I will still devour you. I am one of the lucky ones. People often ask why people on welfare and poor people in general are so overweight. There are many reasons, I will concede, but the fact that food-stamps buys more pre-packaged foods, boxed foods, and starches than anything else doesn't help. It is getting to where fresh fruit may be considered a luxury item.

I just can't give up plums, pineapple, and clementines. I'd better save my quarters.
