I was stung twice by a scorpion yesterday. I am currently waiting for my super powers to begin to show. Suggested names so far: Scorpia, the Crystal Scorpion, and Scorpion of Sorrow. Yes, I was seriously stung twice by a scorpion and then found it crawling up my dress about waist high. It could also still be in the car where I flung it off myself. ( Read more... )

Movies tend to depict scorpions as very lethal and I know that different types are of different potency. You aren't panicking so is it safe to assume it was of a weak venom type?

yeah, it was tan and about 1.5 inches. I think the smaller ones (and red ones) have more toxins. The stung areas are barely showing now. Its somewhat like a wasp sting I think---it injects venom but unless it is a great many of them, or the more deadly varieties, or you are allergic to the venom then you are usually ok. This is my first experience getting stung by one though.

a book in my classroom states that out of 1,500 identified scorpion species only 25 of those have strong enough venom to kill a human. Although it also says that over 1,000 people a year in Mexico die from scorpion stings. I wonder what the bee/ wasp rate in Amreica is in comparison? hmmm.... it also says that the smaller the pincers the more dedly the venom.

Thanks! Sorry to have missed knitting club last night. went and flagged stumps at big brother's property and then had to take a nap before Indiana Jones. I was bummed though, wanted to come---next week for sure.
