Thirteen months

Ciaran has suddenly become a person and I'm not entirely sure when it happened. The signs are clear to see...strongly-expressed opinions in the form of pointing at what he wants and mini temper tantrums when he doesn't get it. Toddling off and doing random little tasks, like putting my shoes on the (thankfully closed!) toilet lid. Bringing me ( Read more... )

don't worry too much about the words as long as he's babbling back at you.

my oldest spoke her first words at 6 months and was speaking in sentences before she was a year old.

the next oldest spoke in single words till he was well over two, and at 18 months had only five or six clear words, "mum", "up", and "NO!" being the most used.

my granddaughter follows well in his footsteps, at 2 and a half she talks non-stop, but well over 90% of her speech is "scribble" - indecipherable to everyone. on the other hand, she sings along with dvds that she enjoys, almost note-perfect.

kids all develop in their own time, at their own pace, and it's seldom productive to compare them even against their own siblings, let alone other children.

Oh, he babbles all right. He never shuts up ;)

It's funny how different they can be developmentally. My friend's daughter is only a couple of months older than Ciaran and already she's got a huge vocabulary!

Just to cheer you up a little: two weeks ago I was certain that my younger son, who's 19 months day after tomorrow, will never "sleep through before the age of two...and maybe even before the age of three". But! One day his babysitter somehow persuaded him to have a day nap in his own bed all by himself (as she says, she just tells him, "Close your eyes, it's bedtime, I'll be right back," and walks out of the room). I tried to do the same thing that same night, and - tada! - it worked! Moreover, he slept the whole night through in his bed without making attempts to move to ours (which he did every night previous to that day). And he still does for a dozen nights already (knock on the wood ( ... )

It's so interesting how Molly ans Ciaran seem to be on the same schedule with their development. She says Bye, Uh-oh, Mama, Dada, (but not specific to each of us yet) and "Bop":) Once or twice she's said Bup (Burp) or Cat or Yuk when mimicking.

I'm so tired and cranky today I can barely function. I did finally find a molar back in her mouth, so at least I know *why* she's so insane lately. Yeh, I have permanent undereye circles and pretty much cry at the drop of a hat.

It's because their mummies share a name ;)

I should try feeling for teeth and see if any have popped through. Ciaran's been drooling so much that I suspect that may have something to do with it but at the same time he's seemed so upset by this cold that I don't know if it's JUST the cold or if teething is playing a part!

Darn inconvenient lack of verbal communication, I say!

Wow, 13 months already?!!

I also have to chime in that around 18 months was the magic time for both of mine to finally sleep better. Maybe not ALL through the night but at least with only one waking and a short one at that. So hopefully there is relief with that soon.

As for the speaking, Alyssa was VERY verbal, VERY early while Tristan was much later. To the point I was worried he might need some speach therapy, but now neither one of my children will shut up. Ugh.

And I feel majorly guilty because I was holding your rattle in my hand today and realized I never sent it your way. Ugh. I'm SOOO bad.
