There were nights when he woke up, he could remember what it was like to find her there and the possibilities about what could have happened had he not gone after her. It terrified him to his very core, the trouble she got herself into. Even if they weren’t together, he was worried about her. So when she went off with Piz that night during the party, he woke up with a gasp, worried. Though Piz wasn’t stupid enough to let something happen to her, he wasn’t Logan.

And that worried Logan. It was his worst nightmare come to life.

Cameron clomped out of a patient's room, looking disgusted. "And another perfectly good life ruined because someone couldn't keep it in his pants."

Foreman followed after her, frowning. "Hey, we still don't know which of them cheated."

"Oh, it's always the man. Men are pigs."

"I find that incredibly offensive."

"I find your gender incredibly offensive."

Foreman fell into step beside her even as she started walking faster. "What's turned you into such a man hater all of a sudden? Something to do with House?"

"At least House doesn't just want me for sex."

"House doesn't want you at all."

She stopped walking long enough to glare daggers at him. "Well maybe I want him to want me."

"But you were just talking about how men are pigs for only thinking about sex!"

"Well it doesn't count if I'm the one thinking about it first ( ... )

When they were finished with him, he was alone, curled on the floor, facing away from the pool of his own vomit. The stones were cool against his cheek, and he focused on breathing, deep, shuddering breaths, wincing at the pain in his ribcage. Remus wondered how long it would be before they realized how little information he actually had and decided to just kill him ( ... )

The nightmares were transient, coming and going while leaving Severus covered in chilly perspiration. He'd wake up with only shadow images remaining, panting in fear and arousal. And guilt, so much guilt that it loomed over and eclipsed any other emotion.

Sharing a bed was still a novel experience, and Severus sometimes forgot he wasn't alone when he lay there, panting and blinking at the ceiling. But then a hand would tentatively reach out to stroke his hand, just a bare touch that said, 'I'm here, you aren't alone, it's okay ...' when the words themselves would be utterly humiliating.

Sometimes, Severus jerks away from the touch and leaves the room, or curls up on the far corner of the bed, as far from Remus as he can.

But some nights, when he lets himself accept that tentative hand, he leans in, lets his body press against Remus's more solid frame, and holds on.
