Sirius/James - Things left unsaid pocky_slash June 18 2007, 02:14:40 UTC
"I want you to be our secret keeper," James says.

Their eyes meet over the table. In that second, there are a million things passing between them, a million memories, a million promises. Gorging themselves on chocolate first year weaves itself into James holding Sirius' hair back after his latest violent breakup with Remus. Their first prank and their last coast side-by-side with the first time Sirius laid eyes on baby Harry. The red of Lily's hair at their wedding seeps into the afternoon they became blood brothers when they were twelve.

An entire lifetime hangs between them, one lifetime woven from two mirrored lives.

"Of course," Sirius says. "Of course."

The heavy sigh came from the control room of the TARDIS and the Doctor abandoned his celery sprig to see what was the matter, pushing past Kameleon (Whyever was he in the closet of all places? He’d really need a word with Tegan after all this) and into the room, hair falling in his eyes to find Turlough sitting there forlornly.

Oh, what now?

He didn’t say that aloud, however, because he really was trying to get along with the man and had been hinting at maybe even switching out of the suit. All he’d received was a clipped remark about celery rotting. So there they were, Doctor and his companion, Tegan likely somewhere in the back, trying to find a way out.

“It’s just I’ve been thinking,” Turlough remarked.

The Doctor kept a willing eye on him, eager to hear the next part. Information and the impossible were two things he was infinitely interested in, and he was all ears and eyes and multiple senses (more than a human). Before Turlough could go on, however, the TARDIS gave them a good jolt.

“What was that?” Tegan shouted ( ... )

'Until we meet again.' Four words, and he was out of her life- her mundane, human ('Not in Aberdeen,' she sighed mentally) life. Four words, that hurt more than they should. It was foolish, to think a man like the Doctor (a person, like the Doctor, since he was not a man, more than a man) wou ever be interested in her. A nosy, bull-headed, more-trouble-than-her-worth journalist who seemed to be more in his way, sometimes, than at his side.

So it was only right that she was here, suitcase in hand, standing on a foreign street corner, reality quickly slamming back onto her shoulders. Still, with thoughts of going home, how to get home, where and when her home was, those four words stuck out in her mind.

It wasn't the one she had expected- or the three she'd hoped for. Just those four little words, and once again, time rolled on, dancing its usual dance. Back to normal- but never the same.

They were standing there, and Martha was just about to go inside her house. She looked over at him.

"Doctor I.."

"I'm not really good at this part, Martha."

"Yeah, I kind of figured that, Doctor.." she said gently.

"It's been an honor, Martha Jones."

"Thanks.. I'm.. glad you took me with you."

"So am I." The Doctor's face lit up in a huge grin.

They embraced, and finally he pulled back. "I'm sorry about.. all the Rose stuff. Always bringing her up. All of that."

She looked impressed. "Thanks.."

He took a deep breath, "Martha.. in my own way.. I.. love you."

Martha didn't say anything, she just shook her head, and headed inside.
