Sorry to hear about the loss. :( Lord knows my family has lost our fair share of koi and fancy goldfish to kamakazi jumps and other fishy circumstances (pun kind of intended). As far as herons go, if the dogs can't be there to guard the pond 24/7 (ours used to do a pretty good job), try a fairly realistic statue of a dog or person, or something motion-censored, like a light. It helps to keep the herons and other predators at bay a bit. Just my $0.02, if it helps.

They don't usually mess with the front pond because of the amount of activity out there, it was the back pond that got completely fished out, and I am setting up a motion sensor out back. Thanks for the 2 cents though! It goes to help save future generations!!

Sorry to hear about the losses Steph. I have lost a good number of fish to jumping, and a number of other things. I hope that the next month and beyound only holds good things for you.
