What Does the Font Say?

If you are doing your own graphic design, particularly for book covers, it's important to understand a little bit about what your font choice is saying. (It's best if you understand a lot, of course, but as long as you understand enough to pick the proper examples to work from, you'll do okay.)

A whole lot of examples behind the cut )

This is a very nice little essay. Thanks for sharing!

So, if Fantasy has serifs and SF doesn't, any thoughts on what kind of font would signal Fantasy/SciFi crossover? (Or the "science fantasy" of Star Wars and its ilk?)

I think it depends on where you think it would sell better. Most of the crossover properties have their own specific font faces, though.
