Vrooooom! Day trips to Ironkite's house for trees and for food and for company and for Lord of the Rings discussions? Mebby we can read the same sections at the same time and discuss! And we have like a big state park right nearby which I am a pretty good tourguide. Look TREES!!!! I know where they are. :)
Interesting... the thing about time commitment is true. I know many teachers who are like, I haven't slept more than three hours this week.
I have mixed feelings about the assertion that teachers are usually representative of the bottom 1/3 of university classes. I'm not sure where that statistic is coming from-- I have my qualms about the academic rigor of education classes, but the average GPA in education colleges is usually among the highest (possibly due to the lack of academic rigor, but then how can you quantify that?). Also, unlike other jobs, would-be teachers have to go through an honest to goodness residency, and, although it's not nearly as all-consuming as what doctors go through, it's the same idea on another scale.
Besides that... yeah, pray for my general integrity (in the sense of cohesion, not of ethics). :)
