Politics and Religion

What I do know is that it is opening up the “taboo” subjects for debate and discussion, more so than it ever has. Just remember though, every war and every innocent drop of blood spilled because of it has been because of differences in opinion on either of these two subjects.

Peace,
Bear

Yeah when I saw the subject of your thread I wanted to run away hehe. When I used to run my message board it was a rule that discussion of politics and religon was forbiden. It would cause too many fights. I also have the policy to not talk about it because I like to keep my friends. I'm very oppinonated and I shall not be swayed and I'd rather not "discuss" because I won't give an inch. And there's no point trying to change the other person because they're probably as rock steady so for me it's best to not go there and keep my friends. The only exception I make are for those that are of like mind. Then it's fun to talk about politics. Chris has been getting REALLy into politics lately. Even though I totally agree with him I still don't like to talk about it much. Unless someone asks my opinion I keep quiet. Then I let it fly. And if they don't like what they hear it's their fault for asking.

I love to talk about religion. There is a great difference in talking about it and trying to change someones opinion. Learning about how others believe, is a great way to understand why and how they think the way they do. It is fascinating, to me to learn how friends got their current beliefs and when they established them and how often or why they adjust them.

It is the people that can not talk about or discuss these issues that bothers me. Why would think that just by talking about what and why you believe, what you do it will cause a fight or argument with a friend. Friends are people that except each other for who they are. You and disagree with a lot of beliefs and still be friends.

"It is the people that can not talk about or discuss these issues that bothers me"

It is very obvious that that was directed at Destroyah_Des. Des and I have been owners/moderators of many boards & news groups. It has been our EXPIRIENCE that these subjects (religion/politics) cause far more problems than they are worth. Based on these expiriences, we forbid those topics to be discussed on whatever medium we are in control of. Also, members/friends HAVE left our boards because of flamewars due to these topics. It is just not worth it.

As for the internet giving no-bodies a voice, just look at the foul mouthed hate-speak vomiting out of every orifice on message boards, youtube comments and blogs. And if you research who is saying it, you will find it is the "open-minded tolerant" liberals.

This comment was not directed at anyone. I was stating that I personally enjoy understanding why people beleive the way they do. It is imo the better to learn and talk things out than hide what we beleive and therefor no possibility of learning, gaining knoweledge of others, our selves, and the possibility of change in our or someone elese opinion of their own accord and not being forced.

My views and opinions have changed over the years with experience, knowledge, and life. Isn't that how we grow as a person? I would not ask anyone to change their beleifs, just to try and understand others.

What a dull and boring place this world would be if we were all of "like" minds. Our differences are what make each of us unique. We are the sum of our experiences. Even if several people go through the same experiences we each perceive them differently because each of us have different values and beliefs ( ... )

Yeah sounds like hippie utopianism to me. Not possible. And who said anything about making everyone have like minds? Read carefully please. I said I prefer to speak with people of like minds.

"Being off by 10 dollars or 100 does not matter."

Both ways you're still off, just one your in a deeper hole than the other. Depends how much trouble you like in your life.

" Some people are like accounts: they see everything as in or out of balance"

These are just people that know how to organize their lives and priorities.

" Neither is right nor wrong "

Someone is always right, though not necessarily heeded, and the majority of the 'nice easy' choices are wrong. There is a set right and wrong that applies to everyone on earth equally, but this is a concept that few can accept.

To each their own. I prefer to speak with people of unlike minds and try and learn about them and myself.

Anything IS possible. Happiness is possible. Beleiving in people who do not think or beleive the way you do IS possible. RESPECTING others IS possible.

Come out of your black and white (as I presume you have not colors in yours) and play.

Once again you prove that you do not do as you say. Look, you are trying to impose your ideas on me after all. No I shall not do anything you say. I have found the right way to do things and have no need to change for anyone.
