Unhappy birthday

Ever since I woke up today, I have been feeling rather off and depressed, for no apparent reason. I think I have figured out why, though. If he were still alive today, my dad, Dr. Dennis Frank Derda, would be celebrating his 63rd birthday.

I was talking to my therapist yesterday about how the subconscious keeps track of anniversaries, even when it takes us a while to figure out what's going on.

Yeah, I always think of my baby that died at birth on his birthday, and then it always takes me a while to figure out why I'm in such a horrible mood and can't sleep!

I'm sorry about the sad anniversary. I hope that you are keeping busy painting your room and that somewhere your dad is smiling at you for finally getting rid of that awful yellow color on your walls.

I'm sorry I didn't pick up on this earlier when we spoke...I remember you mentioned this date recently...I'm a butthead. I know how hard these anniversaries can be...if you ever want to share stories about your dad, I'd love to hear them--and it can be very cathartic to remember all those good times. I'm sure he's smiling on you, you are a wonderful person.
