So I feel really shitty right now... It seems that EVERYONE around me is already in, or just getting a relationship. I mean shoot, I just found out that my cousin Pamela is engaged! (BC) Dave, you sound like Charlie Brown.
It is fine that you usually become friends with a girl first because it is rather shallow to just say that you want to date a girl after one glance.
As far as the one that got away she would have dated you if not for the family thing and you did end up taking a hot cheer leader to prom.
If you really want a girl friend you could be a total duche and ask your friend's ex out, i mean she is on the re bound ;)

eh. i'm in the same situation: it seems like everyone at UCSC is in a relationship (especially my friends) except me. so no worries, you're not alone.

I think never being able to get into a relationship at all is better than getting into shitty ones that never work out (personal experience)
