I hate things sometimes

What's the point of being anon on a kinkmeme if people log and pay attention to your IP address?

I mean, seriously, the point of the anonymity of a kinkmeme is so that people can feel comfortable to ask for what they want without it getting traced back to them, so that no one can even attempt to judge them. I'm not ashamed of my kinks- I'm just not ( Read more... )

I don't understand why someone would trace someone else through their IP address. It just doesn't make sense to me. The requester should feel allowed to request what they want without being traced for it.

Wait, mods do this?

Exactly. And if I'm not going to be allowed to be anonymous, then why even bother with the pretense?

On some kinkmemes, apparently. I'm not gonna name names, but asfar as I know it's not our DRRR one.

lol I really shouldn't be saying this but, damn those are excellent and dedicated stalking skills! *impressed whistle*

But they really shouldn't be doing that unless that person is consistently causing problems for everyone else on the meme, imo.

I know, right?

And even then, you can just delete the posts. But when the person is otherwise following all the rules, it's just not right.

Colour me impressed XD

Hmm well I guess it's the mods' discretion. If I was a mod of one of those anon things and I keep seeing some posts consistently infringing some of the guidelines and they seem similar, I would check the IP addresses. Then I would give the person a warning, and if they keep breaking rules anyway, I'd permanently keep an eye on that IP address and delete any posts they make in the future that do not abide by whatever guidelines are set. So I wouldn't check IP addresses until I suspect a repeat offender, lol.

Yeah, but in this instance, no one's breaking any rules. All that's going on is that someone with the same IP address is posting requests on the kinkmeme requesting the same pairing. That's it. There's no bashing or in appropriate behavior or rule breaking, all they're doing is posting a lot of requests for one pairing. It would be like if we brought up the fact that someone is posting a lot of Shizuo/Izaya requests on the kinkmeme- which I think we have- but that their problem is that it's all one person. And I'm only talking about seven or eight posts, here. And this was brought up by a mod who says they support the pairing.

It just frustrates me, is all.

kink meme shouldn't allow.... IP addresses? if i'm correct? (or is there a new policy change in the lj?)

from what i know i believe the drrrkinkmeme doesn't have ip address checks

Yeah, it's IP addresses. It's not a policy change on lj- it's something you can turn on and off. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. When you post anonymous on something with it turned on, it warns you, and I never thought anything of it before... this mess.

I don't think so either. I'm glad.

the entire point of kinkmeme is to have the ip logging off. i'm very sure drrr kinkmeme's ip log is off. (other meme is suppose to have them off too. if they didn't then... o.o;;; that's way too weird)

It pisses me off, and I'm hesitant about posting requests on that kinkmeme now.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure DRRR's is off.

Okay what the fuck? I've modded a few kinkmemes and I've been on a lot more and it is general goddamn courtesy to turn off IP tracking. What the hell. 8|

I know, and I didn't even care until one of the mods (anonymous, mind you) actually brought up that 'the same IP address was making repeated requests for the same characters' (or something like that- the conversation has since been deleted, but I'm pretty sure the IP addresses are still being tracked- I hesitate making requests there because of that, now)

Wooooooow abuse of power much? D: I think if you go to more options when you comment it'll say whether or not IP tracking is still on, but. Christ. I can't. D:
