Last Night, We Chose Hope over Fear.

Nov 06, 2008 00:02

I don't think I will ever forget last night. It was one of the most surreal, beautiful, wonderful moments of "humanness", I've ever witnessed.

SLS & I got off at the Jackson St. El Stop. As we emerged from the underground, we were engulfed in sea of people. You may have seen the 100,000 in the main field facing the stage where Obama would ( Read more... )

I was wondering if you were going to stay, because I seem to remember you saying you hoped Obama would come out before 11.

Did you see the actual speech?

Did you see the actual speech?

I was on the waiting list for tickets and never got one, so we went to where the Jumbotrons were, which were just outside the gated area. We could hear the Speech from PA's but we only saw him on the Giant screens.

carriemonster had a ticket for me, but scaryladysarah was with me and I didn't want to leave her to the massive crowd by herself.

Sucks, b/c I found out my roommate also had a ticket, but he didn't use it!

Still, being down there with all the people crying and cheering and simply staring at the future was a moment I'll never forget.

I still haven't seen the full speech. It's on the torrents.
I expect I'll see it anon.

I've heard it was a moment that stopped a nation.

The Christian right has put a lot of effort into convincing young Americans that voting doesn't change anything.

I'm really hoping that renewed engagement in politics sticks.

And part of them put a lot of effort into convincing Democrats that today was voting day.

I think it will stick, now that people have seen it really can happen. The disenfranchised finally realize they have a voice so strong it can bring about historic change.

I did wish I was in Chicago for this. My absentee ballot was posted early october and I proudly voted for Obama-I am so glad he won!

To me, witnessing that moment was the perfect flipside of what it was like witnessing 9-11. This moment was filled with the people of a country coming together, witnessing something that filled them with hope. Much like the picture you included here, it was ~golden~.
