The Ghost in the Machine.

It's really silly how at a certain age, you start to look at your mortality. It's completely b/c everyone else is looking at it and out of some weird collective consciousness you can't help but stare at it too. I'll get over it once I turn 40 and realize the Sandmen haven't taken me to the Sleepshop ( Read more... )

I still love live music (went to London yesterday for a gig) but haven't the desire to go clubbing anymore. It's a combo of a bad knee keeping me from dancing and a preference to go somewhere relatively quiet (like a pub) to talk to people that did it.

This is one of my favorite things about London. A lot of the goths are old like me and still go out and do things. I don't go clubbing as much but I go to interesting events and parties and picnics. I was starting to feel old in Chi-town a few years ago. Here, I feel just the right age. I'm a little terrified of moving back to Chicago someday and having all that go away, although I know that life is what you make of it, your environment is really important and in the US I feel grownups are supposed to act a certain way...

That's one of the reasons I love going to London Clubs, or the UK in general. I'm pretty average aged there and most of the folks of "my vintage" are bona fide professionals, well-educated, well traveled, well read, well spoken, and live their life in that weird little way as I do. I don't feel so isolated.

God, that sounds like my idea of heaven. Although I gotta say that our little TO gang here doesn't do so badly. ;)

I could have written this post. I've been struggling with a lot of the same issues, but what it boils down to is that I still like clubs and concerts and dancing, so I still go out. I refuse to subscribe to a code of conduct based on something as arbitrary as age.

FYI, M and I will be in Chicago for a week in August, and I'd love to do dinner/drinks/clubbing with you.
