I don't find it shocking at all. I almost expected it. And like I said, we all tend to over- or under-evaluate the more recent ones so I only put Drive on the list because I'm sure that will stay with me for years to come. I was thinking about adding Attack the Block or Crazy Stupid Love first (but both didn't even survive the first round) and maybe re-watching Weekend, but no other movie from 2011 came to mind.
I'd like to ask though - which ones have you never even heard of?
so movies i've never heard of before... - My Sassy Girl (2001) - Play Dead (2001) - Play Dead (Jeff Jenkins, 2001) - Wet Hot American Summer (David Wain, 2001) - Punch-Drunk Love (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2002) - The Trip (Miles Swain, 2002) - My Life Without Me (Isabel Coixet, 2003) - Reprise (Joachim Trier, 2006) - Severance (Christopher Smith, 2006) - Hot Rod (Akiva Schaffer, 2007) - Summer Wars (Mamoru Hosoda, 2009)
I think I've seen 43 of those from all three lists. (I was hoping I'd make it at least to 50, but alas). Neat list! It kind of makes me want to try making one, though it sounds quite difficult to narrow everything down.
43 sounds good enough. And yes, making that list was hard and part of it was heart-breaking, especially when it came down to the last eight or nine titles that had to be thrown off. But it was also a lot of fun.
