The Darkest Night

During the early 1990's, California experienced some of the craziest and harshest weather I can recall in the state during my lifetime. For three years straight there was flooding in Northern Cali as well as flash floods and mudslides in Southern Cali. For the record, SoCal gets this semi-regularly, but NorCal not so much. As I recall, this was ( Read more... )

Wow. Creepy! I'm glad that they're (apparently) all right. Well done.

Thanks! :D I can't tell you how creepy it was checking all the locks in the house I grew up in. There were so many and most were almost always unlocked.

Though, I miss it. Installing AC, new 'insulated windows', and other technological housing advances took away a lot of what was once my childhood.

Okay, officially awesome. I grew up in an area where this happened often enough - and it's funny what goes through the head of a kid whose mom and dad aren't home. A black garbage bag got stuck to a tree one night in a vicious storm. I was sure it was a killer coming to get us. My older brothers just rolled their eyes, but I noticed they jumped when the thunder struck, too. Good job and good luck this week.

Oh absolutely! Anything and everything can be made to be anything and everything. Gusts of wind can end up being someone walking on the roof or slamming into the walls. Life just isn't as exciting in the newer houses... :D

Thanks!! I'm just about to your entry on the list. Good luck to you as well :D

Does Orangevale mean *cough* Sunnyvale? Because I grew up there. My mom still lives there, and I was in the second grade when the storms you're talking about happened.

Actually, it really is Orangevale.

I'm trying to remember how old I was at the time...

I was 10-12 at the time. It was crazy and my younger sis (7-9) was freaking out a lot.

Well written. Luckily never experienced anything like, though about 18 months ago, I lost power for 12 hours. I called friends, read by candle light, and went to bed. NOTHING like what you went through. Great story. Good Luck :)
