It's a little homophobic and sexist, just enough to reduce by half my amusement.
I know guys who love TWILIGHT because occasionally it's awesome to fantasize about being as awesome as Edward. It's not that different from the reason some guys love watching professional athletes, reading superhero comic books, or watch action films with guys like Samuel Jackson and Vin Diesel and whoever is playing James Bond this year. What I couldn't handle about TWILIGHT is how whiney Belle is -- and, yes, I also have trouble reading the older superhero comic books in which Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson were whiney, too.
BTW, as an English professor, I note that much of his description of the TWILIGHT series applies to almost any teen romance novel of the past fifty plus years (except for the supernatural shtick).
