Self-pimp: new Girls community!

Jun 29, 2012 22:00

I had been lamenting the lack of an LJ community for the HBO television series Girls for quite some time, and then a few weeks ago, moerlin suggested that I create one myself, so I just did!

I present to you, girls_hbo!

I'm not sure how many of you watch the show, but as I've mentioned before, everyone should check it out because it's fantastic and hilarious. ( Read more... )

Yep, it's set in present-day NYC. :)

Fun, yes, and also a little daunting! But I only have two members so far (and one of those members is me, heh), so it shouldn't be too hard to moderate at the moment.

From your raving about it before, I finally got around to watching it. I've only seen the 1st episode though--I only have HBO GO right now (thanks to my lil' sis) but I ended up watching Veep instead, which I love. It's really funny! Anyway, I'll see if I can watch the rest this weekend; I put all the eps. on my watchlist. I don't really have an opinion on it yet though I did think Hannah was kind of a spoiled brat--I thought I was spoiled--but I can love spoiled brats (Luke Snyder, anyone?). But once I watch the rest, I may join your comm.

And good for you for starting it!

Thanks for the Veep rec! Haven't watched that show yet, but I do love Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

And yes, Hannah is totally a spoiled brat with serious entitlement issues, but she's flawed that way and I can't help but find her endearing. She's self-absorbed but also full of self-loathing and I can relate to that, especially since I'm at a point in my life where I too feel sort of aimless. The show also approaches situations with a particularly real-feeling awkwardness and humor that's I've honestly never seen on television, particularly from a female perspective. And I love that Lena Dunham isn't model-thin like most leading ladies you see on TV. She looks like a regular person, which is so refreshing! I hope you start liking the show once you get further into it. Perhaps it's not for everyone, but it's worth a chance, IMO. :)

Congrats on your community! I'm sure it will pick up momentum and hopefully you'll still have some time to spend with us over here in LuReland!
