I don't think Andrew's point is what Signorile interprets it at all. This column may just be particularly easy for Signorile to rip apart. How much of the response is about positive status and how much is it about ripping apart a gay conservative, I wonder? I'm not saying he doesn't make a good point, but if Signorile were to look at Sullivan's blog he's see a different thesis. Like you said, verrrry interesting.

Do you not think that Sullivan's article was a bit irresponsible, written only "half tongue in cheek", as he says?

Oh yeah don't get me wrong. He's on that delicate border between mildly tolerable and asshat. He doesn't seem to understand the weight of the stuff he says. I just don't know if the response fit. But I'm not condoning the message of Sullivan's piece at all either.

Damn. I think I understand what Sullivan was trying to say, but I also see how easy it was to be misinterpreted. I think you're right to say that Sullivan was a bit irresponsible, and I think he should have worded things differently. The whole tone of his article is too easily subject to "interpretation" rather than being what it IS -- or rather, what it was SUPPOSED to be. By the same token, who the hell gave Signorile the right to say all of THAT? Hmmm... verrrry interesting indeed.
