Using a Linux Computer as a Router

Hello. I've been cursed with an Asus wl-138g v2 card on a Windows computer. I'd switch it over to Linux, but I am compelled to leave it with Windows. The issue is that the card is horrible in Windows and I can't get a new card right now ( Read more... )

What software is running the wireless in Windows? I find that anything other than the actual Windows wireless control tends to be awful (Weird that the Windows stuff is the best, I know, but it is what it is).

To do what you are suggesting, presumably you could just deactivate the wireless of your Windows computer, install stuff into the Linux to convert it into a router (google would presumably know, and I believe there are distros solely for the purpose of routers if this other computer is to solely be a router), and treat it like a router when you plug it in. You might have to watch whether you have a crossover or straight cat5 cable.

This all begs the question, what is keeping you, of all people, in Windows? Are you back on teh WOW?

Actually, it is the computer itself that keeps me in Windows. My computer is having an odd boot issue and I can't find any documentation of it. The documentation I can find states that it is a memory module problem and should be diagnosed by plugging in one module at a time to rule out defective RAM. However, there is no defective RAM ( ... )
