I have a theory; A cataclysmic emotion= an emotion (positive or negative) of large quality and quantity is hard enough on the body or mind when it is experienced, but is absolutely unfathomable for the memory. Maybe a memory of the actual event, instead of how you felt after, could re-release these chemicals thus reimbursing your first exerience, a memory. Senses Fail is the shit.
