Trauma(ish) List, Or Why It's Okay To Throw *Anything* at Schierke Really

Usagi's list reminded me that I've been meaning to do this for a while!

This isn't quite a "trauma" list, as she is actually traumatized by like...two items on this list.

  • Monsters. I'm not going to even TRY to list all of them, but seeing as just their appearance in Berserk freaks most characters out/shatters their faith/worldview, it's worth mentioning. They're all pretty horrific, with the exception of the silly nose beast. Just assume that for every bullet point on this list there are three describing freaky shit out of a horror movie
  • Trolls raping women (granted she wasn't right there for that, but she still "saw" it)
  • Well she doesn't SEE Flora being burned alive, but just returning to her home to find that it's been set ON FIRE by a horde of Apostles is you know, a little traumatic for her.
  • While that whole "my mistress is ON FIRE AND DYING" thing is going on? Has to stick Guts into cursed armor, which...goes berserk and she has to dive directly into his mind to get him to stop. So she sees what went down at the Eclipse which is a lot of people being eaten alive by terrible monsters, and more rape.
  • A City. This goes on the list because there are so many people around that she has a hard time hearing the spirits and it makes her sadface. :( It's also smelly D:
  • Follows a lost spirit to an alley of hanging corpses. When she touches them, she witnesses slavery and genocide \o/!
  • She thinks this was Not Cool and tries to find some alone time on the docks, where she's confronted by pirates who are rounding up children to sell.
  • Also, it's worth mentioning that she has to deal with all of Guts' wounds, which are generally horrible. Again, I'm not even going to try and list them all. Just assume that for every bullet point on this list you could add one that says "GUTS IS BLEEDING ALL OVER THE PLACE"

A great deal of the reason I love Schierke so much is that she's so incredibly brave/cool-headed. She only ever loses her composure when Flora is dying, but even then she pulls together and manages to deal with someone else's trauma. Later, Guts has to tell her that it's okay to cry. Both Schierke and Farnese are upset when Guts almost cops to being in love with Casca--but while Farnese gets angry and snaps at Casca, Schierke deals with it by evaluating the relationship she does have with Guts and decides that it's special, too, and that's fine for her.

The only thing that will push her trauma buttons would be if anyhing happened to her clothes/hat, as they're mementos from Flora. She's not a stone wall, but she can handle everything that life throws at her, which ain't bad considering that she lived isolated from the world for x number of years.

Aaand I end this essay-esque thing with an obligatory note that the last time we got new canon for Berserk as late November. Back then, I called "March" for the next time we'd see an entry and it looks like we're well on our way to meeting that prediction.

And Schierke won't even be in it when it does come around OTL. Goddamn Griffith chapters.
