TBH you don't really even have to be into Star Trek to appreciate the fantastic cast the article put together- I'd watch the SHIT out of a show with that cast, no matter what the plot or premise.
For me DS9 leads over TNG by a verrry small margin for favorite show, but if one of the two should get a reboot, I'd say TNG. And then maybe in season 5 of the TNG reboot, DS9 also! 8D
I'm actually not a big reboot fan~ (even though the JJ Abrams Trek movie was fun). I'd rather see a new Star Trek series that was actually current instead of "retro."
Something that builds on VOY and DS9 rather than like Mad Men in Space, you know?
I'm not a giant reboot fan either, but this casting set fascinates me enough that I'd love to see it. At least I'd love to see it experimented with.
And the last time they tried to make an entirely new Trek storyline it was wildly unpopular. IMO Enterprise isn't nearly as awful as people think it is. I quite enjoyed it. But it was missing the cerebral element that the other Treks had. If they make a new Trek, I want there to be action-adventure, sure, but I don't want that to be the central focus. It needs to be extremely intelligent and self aware, with more of a mental exercise required. Which is why I like this cast so much!
I love Tracie Thoms!! I also love Major Kira, like nekobot01 :D barrowman+eccleston combo=<3 but eccleston never does anything for more than about a year, he gets antsy.
True. I could think of Picard alternatives, TBH, but it would be really interesting to see Eccleston tackle it. I feel like he'd bring something new to the role without completely redoing the character from scratch.
Trek!! <3 TNG was my childhood (and the game Star Trek: Generations, or was that just me...) :D The reboot characters looked pretty good, but I just cant see anyone else as Picard, but Patrick Stuart... That guy was brilliant. I never really was a fan of DS9, I think it was one you liked or didn't, it got better in the later seasons tho :) Its always been Voyager and TNG for me :P I think it is the Borg... They're just too cool!
Hehe, and here I am with DS9 as my favorite of the bunch :) but like you said- it's either love it or don't with DS9. I know plenty of people who disagree with me on that score!
I think it comes down to the fact that for me the strongest point for TNG was the plot, whereas the strongest for DS9 was the characters and the chemistry. A strong ensemble is always what makes or breaks a show for me. (AKA one of the hundreds of millions of reasons why I love Joss Whedon shows. He's very ensemble-oriented.)

I go to a Trek convention with my mom every year. She loves Voyager because she's a Borg fan. XD
I was always more of a DS9 girl, myself. I love me some Major Kira.
