For your white on white problem go to zap annoyances install the zap colors bookmarklet in your toolbar or bookmark bar. It turns any web page into black letters on a white background. I went to Yahtzee's site and had the white on white experience. I zapped colors and it worked perfectly. I use this all the time for sites with "interesting" color setups.
I am embarrassed, because I totally have that bookmarklet and I forgot about it. Thank you for reminding me! I will try to focus on the joy that it will bring me in the future, and let go of the fact that I could have had this joy MUCH EARLIER if I had just LOOKED UP.
I am absolutely convinced, super-kinky sexing, James T. Kirk). I love this entire story. It works as an AU because it's a believable backwards extrapolation - what is Spock like if he encounters humanity a little younger? (Kirk is actually just Kirk. I mean, for all we know, in addition to committing whatever felonies - NO I AM NOT MAKING ANY GUESSES - maybe he was dancing professionally during his pre-Pike years. I can totally believe that. It's hard to come up with a profession I couldn't believe he was doing during those years, although the ones that require a lot of schooling or, um, responsibility are kind of a stretch. It's a lot easier to buy, like, dance instructor, skilled second-story man, hacker, makeup salesguy, companion to the thirteenth Doctor - oh god I have to stop this RIGHT NOW. But you take my point.)
OMG I would read ALL OF THESE "what was Kirk doing in the pre-Pike years" stories.
ETA: Also, thanks so much for the ST09-Dirty Dancing rec - it was such fun!
Thanks a million for the Merlin rec! I once dabbled in rowing - and you're totally right: it's (at least) twice the pleasure, when fandom and real life fun meet!
How many time have I wished that I had Nintendo level computer graphics ability (as opposed to my current flip-book ability. On post-its.) so I could draw those routines? I've dreamed of a fan emailing me the following:
"Hey, love the fic. I'm an animation expert, well, more japanimation really, though my bread and butter is video games. I just designed a live action hockey game and have been playing with animating figure skating. Would you mind terribly if I animate your entire story and post it on YouTube? Would that be okay?"
Of course, then I would hyperventilate, and there's no one here to revive me, I'd expire and never finish that SGA/Pern crossover. So it's probably just as well.
