The next person who says "Australia is the most wonderful place to live" had better be prepared to live with Foxaroo claw wounds.

Sounds like pretty balmy weather for Phoenix and Tucson in Arizona. Take a look at the historical extremes for Tucson in the month of June:

What is average humidity for Arizona? Here it's 57%, we are a harbour city after all.

Arizona is dry. Granted, your humidity would make the heat you described unbearable, but the *blistering* heat of the Arizona desert keeps most people inside where it's air conditioned. Many folks from Salt Lake have winter residences down there, when it's quite pleasant.

Stay cool...

Thanks Alaskawolf.

The best I can do (when morning) is try to spend as much of the day as I can resting in a cold bath. The ramshackle system I've set up here for the air-conditioning is entirely ineffective when these temperatures are reached.

It's just one more reason I have to want to strangle my brother for jumping ship and leaving me here unable to move out due to the nation-wide rent crisis.

There's no respite...

It's 4:30am as I write this, since I've been unable to sleep for the past hour and a half. According to the Sydney Morning Herald website (http://weather.smh.com.au/local.jsp) it's currently 25 celcius outside, and even warmer in here because the brickwork hasn't been able to cool down.

I hate living in this country.

Hmm, it sounds like it almost exactly mirroring our winter up here.
(um, long and cold as opposed to long and hot)

Usually, we get two weeks of snow, then it disappears quickly in the week after that.
But not this year.

This year, we had two weeks of deep snow (the deep part being unusual for our area), followed by two weeks of being very mild, letting most of the snow melt.
Then we had two weeks of very cold conditions, with lots and lots of fog, then we might get more snow this weekend...

Aside from funds, what else would be preventing you from changing countries?

A job and a residency permit.

I had been looking for jobs in my company's Canadian offices, but I needed to put that on hold until after I've recovered from the operation. After my arm has healed I'll start looking again. With the downturn in the economy my chances aren't good, but I'll do my best to look.

The residency permit is another matter entirely. I've no idea how I'll fare there. There's a naging doubt in my mind that the credit card companies are refusing to give me a card because something untrue has been recorded about me, and it makes me wonder if that (whatever it is) might affect my chances of applying for work overseas.

Good news & bad news on the Sydney weather front.

It's cooled down outside - there's a truly magnificent breeze (more like a wind actually) blowing across the city at about 20 degrees celcius.

The bad news is that the brickwork of my high-rise building has already soaked up the heat and will take all night to cool down. I'll be nodding off early tonight to recover the sleep I lost last night, and as insurance I'll be taking a withdrawal from my temazepam reserve.
