Interesting that the journalists are now following my example and describing this as "The heatwave from hell ( Read more... )

Youch, I'm glad I don't live there!

What have you been doing to stay out of the heat?
(I do want to make sure you don't expire before you update KZN at least once more)

I wonder what Twitter users around here are saying about our extra drop of snow we got today...

Well Melbourne is a long way south of Sydney, and it's normally much cooler there.

What I'm doing to cope with the heat: I'm avoiding going out in the sun, drinking plenty of fluids, and when I'm at home I'm doing the hippopotamus thing and staying in the bathtub as much as possible. I only wish it were possible for me to work on my project from there.

The big problem is that I need to do all the preparations for my absence from home in February, including backing up my hard drive and putting all my valuable items in locked cupboards so I don't have to worry when the Real Estate agent calls in. Therefore I can't stay in hippo-state forever.

Hope this heat wave breaks for you soon... I do remember one such experience when I lived in Seattle. We had 40's for about two weeks or so, and up there the humidity is much like what you get. It's the only time I've gone Commando in my life... if I was less inhibited I would have been tempted to paddle around in my skin. It was truly horrific.

It sure is.

I think this is part of the reason behind a recent polling which shows that 90% of Australians want nuclear power to replace our coal-fired power stations. The Greenhouse effect is too severe here to be ignored.

108 F? I don't think I've ever been in area that hot outdoors in my life. And I've visited tropical countries.

Tasmania was originally named "Van Diemen's" land (because the original explorer named it after his sponsor, Anthony van Diemen. Later however the island was named after the explorer himself.

They should return Tasmania to it's Demon name, and simply call Australia "Hell." If nothing else it would deter all the illegal immigrants breaking in. I'm wondering if any of them are now having second thoughts...

Part of why white cars are so popular here, and black ones aren't. It can get hot enough to cook eggs on the roof of a black car in some parts of the country.

Well said! Anyone with a black car in this country must be either insanely wealthy or just insane.
