Completely Unasked For Review: DKR

I like the fact that Dark Knight Rises shares the same initials with Dark Knight Returns. Clever, Nolan...clever!

So, I was asked what I thought of the movie and I'm not sure, really. I think of all the reviews I read afterwards, Roger Ebert put it best (shocking, I know), when he said, "It isn't very much fun, and it doesn't have very much ( Read more... )

I actually really enjoyed this one, probably more than the other two. This is the first one of the Nolan trilogy that actually felt like a comic book movie, that was actually fun to watch. To Dark Knight is slow in places and is just unrelentingly brutal while this one had some levity and silliness mixed in with the harsh reality. I agree with you on a lot of your points, especially the Talia thing, I was right there with you on that. I agree that Catwoman was probably the best part of this film, it was super cool finally seeing the character done right on screen, it only took them three tries. That's just me then I was in the dissenting opinion about The Dark Knight so I guess it makes sense that I'll be in the dissenting opinion about The Dark Knight Rises.

You make some great points.  while i enjoyed it, no gadgets in the fights with bane seemed so odd to me.   However, i wasn't find of chairwoman in this, i preferred Pfeiffer's take, and am an old fan of Eartha Kitt's take.  I like a more feline act on the role.  That said, i didn't think she did badly, no halle barrey level of bad.

Yeah, it comes down to a matter of preference in her case. I prefer the anti-hero Catwoman of the past couple decades myself, so I liked her.

I like the anti hero aspect, and i like how she was written in the movie, i just like the character a little more dialed up on the feline personality and quirks (but not playing with catnip like a fool).  I didn't think her bad, but she want among the best parts for me.

Although I agree with many of your points, I *really* enjoyed it anyway. And agree with you about Catwoman - was expecting to hate her and was hella impressed.

When they did hook up, I turned to Kar3n and said, "That's Talia, Ra's al Ghul's daughter.
DICK MOVE COLEMAN. :P

I didn't mean it as a spoiler. It was just one of those, "Yeah, betcha that's Talia," things. :)

I had to sit on the movie for a few days. When we left I just felt... empty. I don't know, I couldn't put my finger on it, though you managed to sum up quite a bit of the things that stuck with me. Husband loved it, though, and thinks I'm just being too picky.

Well except...

Fox: "Don't worry, I have all of the prototypes for Batman's toys in this one underground room all together." Me: "Well Bane's gonna get those. 20 minutes later..." :sigh:

COMPLETELY off subject. Did you and the fam go to Comic Con and dress as Littlefinger, Cersei and Tyrion? Because a friend of mine posted a photo of "The best costumes at SDCC" and I swear to god it was you.
