There is a lot of good food out there. I know this, and you know I know: you don't get a table muscle like mine by being shy with a fork. I love food of all kinds, from the commonplace to the exotic, I'll try just about anything once. (Dog soup? Good stuff; tastes like chicken. Highly spiced chicken.) I'll note Dittmer's for the future. I wonder if they make their own products? There were two German delis in San Francisco, but both have been closed about a decade. :(
I'm with you on the Everett & Jones. To me, the one at Jack London Square is far superior to the University & San Pablo location here in Berkeley. The product is no doubt the same, but the place closer to me over-cooks/smokes the links and the ribs for my taste.
Have you tried KC's BBQ's links? They're also here in Berkeley and I like theirs as well. The grind is finer and the flavoring is different. Still yum. On San Pablo Ave near Ward, I think.

I've only eaten once at the San Pablo location for E&J, and as I recall, it wasn't that great. I much prefer the downtown location, as well as the Hayward (A Street) location. I've eaten at the Alameda E&J's as well, and it wasn't up to the Hay or Jack London sites. Apparently, E&J's is a family run business, and different branches of the family run different locations. So the recipe is the same everywhere, but the menus are different as is the preparation.
I have not tried KC's, which will have to be remedied soon. (grin) Of course, I considered it a major disaster when Flint's BBQ went out of business. As much as I love E&J, Flint's was better, IMHO.

Flint's. I thought it was a different style than E&J, so it was hard for me to compare, rib-wise. I definitely preferred the links at E&J, even back then. Do miss Flint's if, for nothing else, the scary cleaver-wielding service people.
