Too much has happened in the last couple of days... crazy holiday season...
Went to my uncle's 70th birthday bash at Mission 261 in San Gabriel... 11 tables of people. Honestly, some people don't have even have weddings with 11 tables. Then again my family generally has 50+ tables at weddings... crazy azns.
All I have to say is that that was the craziest party of that age group that I've been to. The tone-deaf karaoke started early on... even before all the alcohol was flowing. I got dragged up with the rest of the ABC table to sing a song... and I was by far the youngest (besides the babies) at the party. Met my cousin's new bf... hahaha who is basically twice my age. Got my cousins to get me some red red wine to make the evening more bearable and less embarrassing...
Later that night, one of the uncles crossdressed in his wife's clothing for "entertainment" = quite possibly the most disturbing thing I've ever seen an old azn guy do. There were lots of dirty jokes in Chinese that I never want to hear coming out of old people's mouths. The scary thing is that he was a totally convincing drag queen. I'll post pics soon as I get a new battery into my camera so I can upload them.
COOOL note though is that the uncle that had the birthday is very much in high society in terms of Monterey Park Chinese... so the guy that plays all the Chinese mob leaders in the movies was at the party... George Cheung. He's in Rush Hour and Lethal Weapon 4 and Austin Powers among other movies. I talked to him a bit and got a picture with him... he's really cool.
To summarize: drunken azn men are really funny.
Out to LA for dim sum... played mahjong for like 4 hours in the afternoon with various family members. Mahjong is like poker but azn and way the hell more complicated. That and my relatives play FAST. I couldn't keep up with them and needed help haha. Summed up the evening by gaining weight by way of Shanghainese cuisine. It amuses me that Chinatown is pretty much the only thing open on Christmas. That and that according to CNN.com, this is why Chinese on Christmas is becoming more and more popular. Especially among the Jews who don't celebrate Christmas... although this year, Christmas happens to be the first day of Hanukkah.
The holidays are always a time of reflection, I think. This year... I feel that despite college apps and worrying about 5023947243 things related to graduation or college... I'm okay. Even though, things don't fall quite as I would like them to... actually nothing like I would like them to. But that's the way the world works, isn't it? You can't plan for anything. Tomorrow, my eyes could fall out and I could gain 500 pounds and die by way of cucumber flu - a newly mutated virus that infects people who use cucumber slices to reduce eye puffiness. Still... unfinished business is never a good thing. Makes me wish that that incident had ended differently... way differently. I miss some old things I used to have.
That and people lately have just been REALLY stupid and annoying. It's frustrating to feel nearly isolated in my experience.
