Epilogue: I Dream a Highway (Back to You) irisbleufic April 16 2011, 11:05:36 UTC
Song from which the title comes performed by Gillian Welch

Peacehaven, she'd told Lestrade. It's just outside of Brighton.

Why not Brighton? he'd asked. Plenty of accessible beaches there.

Because they'd never have stood for it, she'd insisted, holding her chin high.

And so, here she is, with the Detective Inspector (so kind, bless him), pulling up to the simple wooden bollards lining the end of a desolate residential street called Phyllis Avenue after an hour and a half on the road. They'd made no stops, her hip be damned. It's an important errand ( ... )

You can look up the exact spot on Google Maps; I was poking around the Sussex coastline, saw there was a place called Peacehaven, and did a slight double-take. No actual travel required to scope out the location.

Thank you <3

This series always makes me cry. It's so beautifully written. The image of the violin and cane in the corner of Mrs. Hudson's flat is heartbreaking.

Although I'm not sure what became of the skull itself...

Thank you *hugs*

Only knowing that they're happy and with one another in that other, mystical, place keeps my heart from breaking. So beautiful. They've left behind so many people who love them.

Beautifully done, as always. :)

(I'm half thinking I've constructed this 'verse as a place of retreat in case S2 makes me so angry I have to step back and pretend it doesn't exist. A bit extreme, really, but my bitterness re: bad turns of canon events takes me by surprise sometimes.)

*hugs*

Thank you, my dear.

She hands it to Lestrade, who mutters Christ under his breath and covers his eyes briefly with one hand.

In my head-canon, Lestrade definitely doesn't grieve gracefully.

Your death fics are the only ones I truly enjoy, and yes I'm aware that sounds sick. Very nice.

If you're sick, then I'm sick: I actually enjoy writing in this 'verse. At first, I was vaguely troubled by that, as death-fic was never my bag, although I'd frequently write around canonical deaths and explore them, maybe try to fix them, but...

(Oh, but nothing. As I said: we can be sick together. Thanks *hugs*)

My heart literally crumbled into achy fragments. Does it make sense if I say that this transcends in-chararacter-ness and makes them real?

It makes sense to me, as I've read stories before that have given me that sense, yes - it's very high praise to receive such a statement, though, so thank you *hugs*

I've seen artwork in the style of your icon before, but I can't seem to remember where...
